These durable machines are working hard at their jobs today. A machine built by Bucyrus-Erie or Northwest will be working just as hard tomorrow.
The Silver Spade was a giant power shovel manufactured by Bucyrus-Erie and used for strip mining in southeaster Ohio. It was one of two made, the other being the GEM of Egypt. The shovel was scrapped in February 2007. Here's what it looks like on the inside!
